Business English Pathway to University

We are very pleased to congratulate Ana Isabel Lacarra Farias, who recently completed the 12 week program in Business English at GV Calgary, and is now taking the Certificate in Business Administration (CBA) Fast Track Program at the University of Victoria.

This program is available for GV students who complete the GV Business English Program. Based on the recommendation of GV, students are accepted by University of Victoria, one of Canada's premier universities, into the 12 week intensive CBA Fast Track Program. This is designed for Intermediate-Advanced English students interested in earning a business designation.

Ana used her Business English class at GV Calgary to go to University of Victoria!

The program enhances learners' business skills which are needed for the global economy. It is also suitable as preparation for further university business programs. A very attractive feature of the class is that it mixes Canadian and international students together, so it improves general skills, including English usage, as well as making classmate contacts for future business networking.

Unique Adventure in the Rockies

Our August overnight trip to Waterton is an annual tradition at GV Calgary and is one of the most popular outings for the students. Waterton National Park is located on the international border of Alberta and Montana and is one of the most geographically and ecologically diverse national parks in North America.

The area is also globally important for two reasons:

  1. An international Peace Park (Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park) was created here in 1932.
  2. This Peace Park was later declared a World Heritage Site in 1995.

We made it! Students pause for a rest overlooking Waterton Lake

This year, we had a group of 41 students enjoy the spectacular and breath-taking scenery of the Park. One of the highlights of the trip was an informative and relaxing cruise of Waterton Lake, including some amazing scenery and a unique opportunity to stop on the American side of the lake for a short time without a passport!

The students also really enjoyed a Saturday morning hiking trip (Bears Hump) which provided a spectacular view of Wateron Lake and the surrounding area. On the way back to Calgary, we stopped at Cameron Lake, where the students participated in activities such as canoeing, paddle boating. A few brave and/or crazy students even went swimming in the "warm tropical" glacier-fed waters of Cameron Lake. It was a truly eye-opening experience!
