A Unique Project for the Business English Students

During the summer of 2007, some GV Victoria students and teachers took part in an exciting promotional video project. The filming and music selection phases of our project involved the efforts of many staff, teachers and students.

Student Interviews – Once the production crew arrived in Victoria, students, teachers and staff had a chance to participate in live filming and interviews. This was a great chance for students to practice English and share their feelings about studying at Global Village Victoria. Thank you everyone who participated!

Music Selection – Selecting background music for the video was set up as a real-life business project for GV Victoria's Business English Program (BEP). Bhavani's Business English class was provided with 15 samples of background music. The class listened to the music tracks and evaluated their suitability to our school, the city of Victoria and life on Vancouver Island.

After holding a vote, the Business English class presented their final choice of music in a formal business letter to the school’s administration: "We are happy to be writing this letter to tell you of our recommendations for the music track for the promotional CD... We have chosen [this track] because this track has a story line and it is laid back, West Coast, friendly, and inviting."

The student interviews and choice of music truly capture the spirit of Global Village Victoria. Watch the GV Victoria video at: www.gvenglish.com/en/schools/victoria/video.cfm

New Homestay Service

Traditionally, the GV Victoria homestay program has offered airport reception service at Victoria International Airport (YYJ). Students who fly directly to the Victoria airport will continue to receive friendly, convenient reception service by their host families upon request.

For students who terminate their flights in Vancouver (YVR), however, they should take the Pacific Coach Line (PCL) bus from YVR to downtown Victoria via BC Ferries. Upon arrival at the Victoria PCL, students can phone their hosts and the host family will make the quick trip to the bus station to greet them. PCL Bus Depot reception service is available for only $35 (PCL bus tickets and ferry ride NOT included). This service MUST be requested at the time of registration, and we appreciate knowing your Vancouver flight info in advance so that host families can estimate your time of arrival at the PCL.

Visit the Pacific Coach Lines (PCL) website for current schedule and more information
