English for the Working World

GV Vancouver is always open to student suggestions for new and different courses. Over the past year we have seen a growing interest among low-level students who to study in our business programs, but haven't reached the required level yet. To accommodate those students GV Vancouver has been running PM option course called "English for the Working World"

Director of Studies Beth Fawcett says, "Lots of students express an interest in our business programs, but aren't at the required GV6 level. So, we offer a class specifically for lower-intermediate students that focuses on business-related vocabulary and topics."

As the name suggests, English for the Working World helps students develop job skills, such as writing resumes and cover letters, interviews, and speaking on the telephone. It features job vocabulary, formal vs. informal writing, company structure, meetings, and management skills.

Teacher Daniel McGillis says that the lesson contains a mix of vocabulary, writing, and role plays. "It's not an easy class," he remarks. "A lot of the material is for people who are working, so if you haven't had a job, you'll have to be creative and open to imagining yourself in work roles."

English for the Working World is a very popular course and runs every session.
