Christmas Celebrations At GV Victoria

Students caught the Christmas spirit at GV Victoria last month. Starting with decorating the school’s Christmas tree on December 7th, we moved enthusiastically through a list of Christmas festivities, which lasted the whole month. On the December 18th, students held a Gingerbread House building competition which although difficult to judge was very tasty.

On December 20th and 21st, we enjoyed the wonderful Christmas tree displays at world famous Butchart Gardens and a driving tour of beautiful Victorian homes decorated with amazing lights. Students practiced their singing on December 23rd with games and prizes. And finally on the December 24th, everyone shared in the gift giving spirit over hot chocolate by exchanging ‘Secret Santa Gifts’ with classmates.

GV Victoria Homestay Heats Up For A Busy Summer

GV Victoria Homestay co-coordinators Heather Fyfe and Suzuna Nagamine are busy not only placing students for summer but also interviewing and visiting perspective host families for the year ahead. A difficult task, but fortunately, GV Victoria has cultivated a large and diverse database of families and a great reputation for being one of the most organized and well rounded homestay programs offered anywhere.

Heather and Suzuna are proud of their ability to find perfect matches for all our students’ (even students with special needs or allergies). They attribute their success to the relaxed and friendly people of Victoria, who always have time to give our students special attention.

GV Victoria Becomes Cambridge Destination

Our next Cambridge class, starting on January 12th, is already full thanks to the passionate hard work of our Cambridge teachers and the great exam results we have had from our students. Everyone agrees GV Victoria has become the destination for serious students who want the best possible preparation for their First Certificate in English (FCE) and Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) exams. Although the seats for this session have been filled, we are still accepting students for the June 16th and 17th FCE and CAE exams with classes starting on March 23rd but space is becoming limited.

Winter Sports

With all the holiday food and festivities we decided it was high time to get outside and exercise. Next month, GV Victoria students will take part in activities designed to work off the Christmas turkey and pudding. Kylie Pulin our activities coordinator has a full regiment of events planned including swimming, ice skating, yoga, indoor soccer, and basketball. For those who have given up on getting in shape there are movies with popcorn and a professional hockey game to attend.
