An Active Christmas and New Year at GV Calgary

December 2015

GV Calgary – There is plenty happening during Winter at GV Calgary. Check out our Event Calendars for the December-January season to see what events GV Calgary students can participant in. As well as offering classes during the Christmas/New Year week (except for the public holidays), GV Calgary recognizes that many students are very conscious of their budgets. You will notice a whole lot of free activities within the School. These include our staff offering classes in Capoeira, Pilates and Yoga.

As well, we offer trips to the Rockies and many things to take in, in and around Calgary, such as The Calgary Flames: Cheer on Calgary’s professional NHL hockey team, the Flames, at the Saddledome. There’s no better Canadian experience.

Some people worry about Winter before they come to Calgary, but once they are here, students revel in the Winter and an authentic Canadian experience by staying active.

At GV Calgary, We Mean Business

September 2015

GV Calgary – Business English that is! We have recently revised some of the key features of our Business English Course with our specialist teacher, Tony Patten, who  has brought in some popular changes to the curriculum over the last six months. We have still kept the focus on improving English skills, but with an increased focus on technology, around business topics. Students can enjoy a highly interactive class, most importantly with a great mixture of cultures and different experiences represented in the class. We continue to use the web enabled classroom, and we also have a special feature which is the GV Calgary Business English website.

Check it out at

To find out more about GV Calgary’s Business English Program, in the following clip, you can hear Tony and one of our students, Esteban, talk about the class, plus see a little snippet of the interactive nature of the class in action. GV Calgary guarantees to run Business English at all times of the year!

GV Calgary Celebrates Ten Years as an IELTS Centre

August 2015

GV Calgary - GV Calgary – Where did those ten years go?! In June, 2005, GV Calgary opened a new part of its operations as the first Global Village IELTS Centre. Since that time, we’ve won numerous awards, such as the Best New IELTS Centre in 2005 and in 2013, Largest Growth for a Centre with more than 3000 Candidates per year. More importantly, we’ve helped thousands of candidates prepare for, and take,  IELTS during that time.

At Global Village, we’re all about providing options for your future aspirations. As well as offering significant pathway options, GV Calgary has developed its IELTS Preparation Programs to one of the biggest and most successful in Canada. With full-time IELTS Preparation classes at three levels, separate evening classes for Academic and General Test candidates, as well as private lessons, workshops and online courses, GV Calgary’s goal is to ensure that candidates have the best preparation possible in order to be successful. Thousands of our candidates have gone onto study at universities and colleges in Canada, and one of our most successful partnerships for our  IELTS students is right here in Calgary with SAIT Polytechnic.

Check the following video from Marcel Koita Miura, of Brazil, one of our successful IELTS students who has been able to start a Physiotherapy career in Canada.

GV Calgary has The Workplace English Diploma (WED)

GV Calgary
The Workplace English Diploma (WED) is a program that offers equal parts classroom study and workplace experience. Students improve their English for 16, 21 or 24 weeks in classroom study, including the completion of a specially designed “Customer Service and Retail Culture” class and an afternoon workshop on resume creation, interview skills and help in obtaining government documentation for working in Canada.
This very popular program is a great addition to classroom work in studying and using English in everyday life.  Applicants should have some work experience and preferably some post-secondary education.  Most students will work in customer service and retail positions.  Students interact with customers and co-workers in a natural and meaningful way while they work in coffee shops, restaurants, hotels, clothing stores, etc.
What better way to learn English than through getting a great foundation in the classroom and then practising daily using “real life” English!  A great way to learn how English is really used!
